Version 1.8.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • Poster Factory Image Sets — Attach a matching background (16:9), square (1:1), and logo to any poster recipe, and MediaAegis keeps the whole set together — it rotates, restores, and backs up alongside the poster and pushes to Plex in one go. Backgrounds and squares can be AI-cleaned of burned-in text just like posters. Logo and square artwork require Plex Media Server 1.43.3 or later; posters and backgrounds work on any version
  • Poster Factory Logo Overlay — Place a title’s logo directly on the poster in place of a text title — the clean, logo-forward look — with drag-to-position, zoom, and reset. It renders wherever the poster is pushed
  • Back Up & Restore Poster Factory Data — A new pair of Publishing House operations bundle every clean image and recipe across all your libraries into a single portable archive you can store or move to another Mac, and unpack it back into place in one step. Composited posters are skipped — they regenerate on restore
  • TMDB Collections & Casts and Crews now cover TV shows — Point a TMDB list or an actor’s filmography at a TV library to build a show collection, matched to the shows you own with the same owned/missing completeness view. Director collections remain movies-only

Improvements

  • Rotating Posters now covers TV shows — Set a show’s rotation once and every season with two or more designs rotates on its own each run, so a single Rotate Posters run can freshen a whole series
  • Poster Studio — Drag an image straight onto the Background, Square, or Logo display — from Finder or dragged directly from a browser like TMDB or TPDB — to import it without downloading first
  • Poster Studio — A padlock on the canvas and logo zoom sliders (locked by default) keeps an over-sensitive mouse from accidentally resizing an image while you scroll

Bug Fixes

  • File Manager on Windows Plex servers — Folder Workshop, Naming Enforcement, and the Label Automation “File Name” condition now handle Windows-style W:\ paths, which previously matched no files
  • The MediaAegis Dock icon no longer bounces every ~90 seconds when the app is closed and a background helper wakes to check its queue
  • Poster Studio — Building a multi-image rotation set no longer loses the auto-filled title text when you switch between recipes

Version 1.7.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • Rotating Posters — Give a single movie, collection, album, or playlist several poster designs and let MediaAegis cycle through them automatically on a schedule — a fresh look every few days, a streaming-service-style poster rotation running on your own Plex library. Build a set of recipes for an item in Poster Studio, mark which ones take part, and choose how it rotates: Sequential walks the designs in order (ideal for keeping a whole collection in step), or Random varies a standalone title. Then run the new Rotate Posters operation in Publishing House, or schedule it with Chronos to refresh your library on its own. Works with any posters — framed designs from the Poster Factory or your own images dropped in as-is, text and all. No configuration files, no scripts. Movies, collections, music, and playlists in this release

Improvements

  • Poster Studio — A new Batch ▸ Save All Recipes action for movies, collections, music, and playlists saves every recipe you’ve built for an item at once (matching the TV workflow), and your edits are preserved as you import or switch between them — the groundwork for building a rotation set

Bug Fixes

  • Poster Studio — An imported image now uses the default frame from your Text Presets, instead of always falling back to Bottom Shadow
  • Scheduled jobs — A scheduled Publishing House job now honors the Preview Mode toggle, so a scheduled Rotate Posters (or any operation) applies its changes instead of always running as a preview
  • Poster Studio — Searching for a new title now clears the previous item’s recipe list and canvas, so listed recipes are never mistaken for the new result’s
  • Scheduled poster jobs — No longer briefly show a second, bouncing MediaAegis icon in the Dock while running in the background

Version 1.6.1

Patch

Bug Fixes

  • Restore Posters no longer overwrites the poster you chose. When an item has more than one poster recipe, Restore now re-renders each item’s active recipe — the one you last pushed — instead of re-pushing every recipe and letting a different one win.
  • Poster Studio (TV shows) — Reopening a show now restores every season’s saved recipe and any season-title changes, so nothing is lost if you save your work and come back later. A batch upload also includes seasons you never opened, instead of skipping them.

Improvements

  • Publishing House — The auto-managed MediaAegis collection no longer clutters the Poster Audit run log.
  • Settings — Corrected the description of the TMDB API key to reflect what it actually powers (the Collections Library’s TMDB sections and keyword-based Label Automation).

Version 1.6.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • TMDB Casts and Crews — A new section of the Collections Library that builds a Plex collection from a person’s filmography. Create a “Christopher Nolan Collection” of everything he directed, or a “Meryl Streep Collection” of everything she’s starred in, matched to the movies you own with the same completeness view that shows which films you’re missing. Find the person by name — the picker shows each match’s department and a few of their best-known films, so it’s easy to tell apart two people who share a name — then choose whether to collect their work as an Actor or a Director. Movies only in this release
  • TV Show Editions — Plex extended Editions to TV shows, and MediaAegis now supports show-level Edition Titles end to end: match on them in Label Automation, keep two editions of a show distinct through matching and reporting, capture and restore them in snapshots, and handle them in Poster Factory. Requires Plex Media Server 1.43.3 or later for shows; movie Editions work on any version

Improvements

  • Features adapt to your Plex Media Server version — Version-dependent capabilities (such as TV Show Editions) are now gated automatically, so an older server keeps working and only shows the features it supports, with a note explaining why anything is hidden. MediaAegis never asks you to upgrade Plex
  • Content Ratings — New opt-in option to remap the ratings on your collections alongside your items
  • Folder Workshop — Refuses any rename that would strip a Plex {edition-…} tag, since dropping it makes Plex merge two editions into one and lose their separate history
  • Poster Studio & Titlecard Studio — Exported clean-image filenames now include the year, edition, and season, so images from different titles no longer collide

Bug Fixes

  • Collections Library: every edition of a multi-edition movie is now added to a TMDB collection — previously one edition could be left stranded on the Library tab
  • Collection Builder: a manual item no longer silently pulls in every edition of that movie
  • Poster Studio: fixed drag-and-drop reusing the previous image when dragging a new one from the web, and corrected the centering of letter-spaced title lines
  • Poster Factory: the season title is now locked on rename, so Plex keeps it
  • Collections Library: the TMDB ID is shown without grouping commas (for example, 85568, not 85,568)
  • Users Guide: the File ▸ New ▸ New Users Guide Window menu item now opens the guide instead of an empty window

Version 1.5.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • TMDB Collections and Lists — Build a Plex collection from any collection or list on The Movie Database, matched to the movies you already own. The Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe are built in, and you can add your own from any TMDB collection or list ID (the type is detected automatically). A completeness view shows exactly which films you own and which you’re missing. Write your own summary for your viewers (or use TMDB’s), choose how the collection participates in the Maneuver (Verse, Franchise, or Editions), and set the sort order — including a custom order you drag into place, so you can run the MCU in chronological rather than release order. Movies only in this release — TV support is planned

Improvements

  • Label Automation — Match TV shows by their TMDB status (Returning Series, Ended, Canceled, and more) — cached in the same Keyword Index, perfect for a “Currently Airing” collection
  • Label Automation — Pin specific titles to a rule by hand, alongside its automatic matches
  • Naming Studio — New Scan Type token (progressive/interlaced) so you can produce names like 1080p and 480i; also available as a condition and report column across Policy Agent
  • Folder Workshop — Recognizes split-file (stacked) movies and episodes, keeping each part’s identifier intact when renaming
  • Manual-item lists now offer an A–Z view so long lists stay easy to scan when you’re looking for something to remove — without disturbing the hand-arranged order a Custom sort publishes to Plex
  • Collection Builder — New Refresh Library Collections option re-checks your Collections Library collections (award and TMDB) against your library before building, so films you’ve added since they were last built get included. Off by default, since it re-fetches from TMDB and the award catalog
  • Configuration Backup now includes your Collections Library TMDB collections, with their summaries and custom ordering
  • The MediaAegis-managed collection created by the Maneuver is now clearly labelled “Maneuver,” with guidance on hiding it from your users

Bug Fixes

  • Label Automation: manual items are no longer lost when a rule is duplicated, or when rules are exported and reimported
  • Naming Studio: the Show Title token now resolves correctly in show-folder names (Folder Workshop and Naming Enforcement) — it was previously dropped, producing folder names like “(1985) {tvdb-368034}”
  • Folder Workshop now runs a pre-flight check that blocks any rename batch where two items would collide on the same name

Version 1.4.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • Collections Library — Build curated award collections from a bundled catalog. Pick an award (starting with the Academy Awards), choose the ceremonies and categories you want, and MediaAegis assembles the collections from the films you already own — with a completeness view that shows exactly which nominated films you’re missing
  • Label Automation — TMDB keyword labels: tag movies and shows by the descriptive keywords The Movie Database assigns them, ideal for parental-control labels like Violence or Coarse Language. Build a local Keyword Index, match with “contains any of” conditions and a keyword picker (with bundled starter sets), and reuse the same keyword conditions in Collection Builder, Content Ratings, and Library Research
  • Poster Factory — AI Image Text Cleanup: remove text and graphics from an image with AI to create a clean poster base, using your own Wavespeed API key
  • Settings — New API Keys panel to manage your own third-party keys (Anthropic, Wavespeed, TMDB) in one place, stored securely in your macOS Keychain

Improvements

  • Configuration Backup now includes your Poster Factory presets, titlecard profiles, and poster projects
  • Scheduled label scans are now labelled “Label Automation” to match the rest of Policy Agent

Bug Fixes

  • Subtitle Studio: ASS/SSA and WebVTT subtitle tracks now extract as clean SRT so they open in the workbench for correction
  • Subtitle Studio: CEA-608/708 closed captions now have their formatting tags stripped on extraction, so no manual cleanup is needed
  • Factory Reset now clears every stored API key (Wavespeed and TMDB), not just the Anthropic key

Version 1.3.1

Update

What’s New

  • Free 14-day trial — Try MediaAegis free for 14 days with no payment required. Start a trial right from the app — no credit card needed — and subscribe whenever you’re ready.

Improvements

  • The License screen now shows your remaining trial days and the date your access runs through.
  • License activation and validation now handle license keys containing special characters more reliably.

Version 1.3.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • Collection Builder — Import existing Plex collections: bring your manual and smart collections into MediaAegis in bulk. Smart filters are translated into condition rules, “Title is” picks become manual items, identically-named collections across libraries merge into one profile, and you can assign a Maneuver label during import
  • Collection Builder — Custom item ordering: drag to arrange a collection’s items and have that exact order applied in Plex when Sort Order is Custom
  • Collection Builder — A collection can now carry multiple labels, written to Plex as separate labels

Improvements

  • Subtitle Studio: the Timeshift tool now accepts milliseconds (e.g. 00:00:46,500) for finer sync

Bug Fixes

  • Subtitle Studio: PGS (.sup) extraction no longer mistimes or drops cues when a subtitle is redrawn back-to-back
  • Collection Builder: imported smart collections now keep their correct sort order (Alphabetical vs. Release Date)
  • Collection Builder: with the Maneuver active, newly built collections are set to the Maneuver’s display mode without needing to undo and reapply

Version 1.2.0

Feature Release

New Features

  • Subtitle Studio — Bulk subtitle extraction: drop a whole season at once, select tracks across every file (including a one-click “select every track of a language”), and queue them all together
  • Subtitle Studio — AI subtitle translation: translate a subtitle into another language with Claude while preserving timing, with an option to also save a clean copy with SDH/HI markers stripped
  • Poster Factory — Ratings overlays now support IMDb and TMDB rating sources in addition to Rotten Tomatoes, and work for TV shows and seasons
  • File Manager — Naming Studio detects Dolby Atmos from Plex’s audio profile reported by newer Plex Media Server versions

Improvements

  • Subtitle Studio: AI Translation is available in both the Subtitle Extractor and the Subtitle Workbench
  • Anonymous usage telemetry now distinguishes each AI feature (correction, Vision OCR, translation) and the Claude model used
  • Updated Users Guide and website with the new features

Bug Fixes

  • Poster Studio: the Ratings Overlay is now available for TV shows and seasons, not just movies
  • Poster Studio: the Double Shadow frame now renders for TV show seasons
  • Poster Studio: renaming a season and uploading it individually now updates the title in Plex (previously only the batch upload did)
  • File Manager: Folder Workshop no longer inflates the Snapshot Health count when it updates an existing snapshot

Version 1.1.0

  • Collection Builder — Collection Label condition field for cross-collection rule logic
  • Policy Agent — Metadata Tools for bulk metadata operations
