Privacy Policy

MediaAegis is a macOS application developed by Christopher MacDougall for managing Plex Media Server configuration, recovery, and maintenance. This privacy policy describes how MediaAegis handles your data.

Data That Stays on Your Device

MediaAegis is designed to keep your data local. The following information is stored exclusively on your Mac and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Plex authentication tokens — stored in the macOS Keychain, used only to communicate with your Plex Media Server
• Sidecar files — JSON configuration backups stored alongside your media files or in Application Support
• Local database — SQLite databases for policy rules and other features, stored in Application Support
• Application preferences — settings stored in UserDefaults on your device

Network Communications

MediaAegis communicates over the network in the following ways:

• Your Plex Media Server — to read and write library metadata, managed entirely by your Plex token
• plex.tv and clients.plex.tv — Plex's cloud services, for server discovery and user management, using your Plex authentication
• Apple (StoreKit) — for subscription verification and management, handled entirely by Apple's frameworks

Data We Do Not Collect

• No personal information (name, email, address)
• No device identifiers or advertising IDs
• No media file contents, filenames, or library structure
• No Plex usernames, email addresses, or account information
• No usage analytics or telemetry
• No crash reports sent to us (Apple's standard crash reporting through Xcode Organizer may apply)

Third-Party Services

When you use features that connect to third-party services, your data is subject to their respective privacy policies:

• Plex — plex.tv/about/privacy-legal
• Apple — apple.com/privacy

Data Retention

Since your data is stored locally on your device, you control its retention. Use the Factory Reset feature in MediaAegis to remove all application data, or simply delete the application.

Children's Privacy

MediaAegis does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
